It's About Time

With the new year, the kids have worked hard on setting goals for themselves.  We have looked at all the things we want to do before the end of 3rd Grade, and tried to think of what we want to focus on.  One area that the kids have really struggled in is Time.  Most of the kids can tell time (although, not as easily as I would like), but many of them have a hard time using time in real world situations.

For example,  If I am driving to Seattle and it takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to get there.  What time do I need to leave Portland to arrive in Seattle at 6:30.

This kind of problem is really tough for 3rd Graders.

So, the 3rd Graders took a hard look at the 5 things all 3rd Graders need to know (in terms of time).  We took a pre-test and used our Levels of Understanding to decide where we were in our learning journey.

In our Data Tracker, we keep track of where we are in acheiving mastery for the  5 telling time goals.

Then kids, working in activities and practice sheets that allow them to gain the knowledge and mastery of the what we are studying.

To honor their hard work, each kid has their own bracelet.  When they reach a 4 or a 5 in the Its about Time goals.  They get a brain bead.  The can see how they are doing in terms of learning All About Time.  We will only work on this a few more week,
