Homework 2/14

DUE: February 20, 2013

Goal:  Write a goal that supports your learning this week.

Goal Evaluation:  Write a sentence or two explaining how you did on your goal.

Spelling:

This week we are looking at words that completely change when they are written as a plural (more than one).

Sort the words into words that you feel good about spelling and words that you are still working on.  Record you sort in your border.

Math

My sister gave her son 33 pieces of candy to divide with 5 of his friends. How many pieces of candy will each one get equally?

We have been working on how to prove your answer.  Each answer should have:
The steps of how you solved it.
     Labels for all pictures
     An equation

This does not have a “clean” answer.  Your child must explain what their reasoning is, and why the final answer looks the way it does.

Reading

This week, we are investigating features of Non-Fiction books.  There are certain things that Non Fiction books have that help a reader understand the topic better.  Find a non fiction book at your house (or check one out from the library).  Record 3 different text features that your book has.  Write the feature down, and what information it shares with the reader.

The non fiction text features are:
Types of Print, Table of Contents, Index, Glossary, Diagrams, Maps, Charts, Headings, Insets, Picture Captions, Insets or Sidebars.

Writing
We just finished our first Expository writing piece of the school year.  The kids did a great job writing about something they were already an expert in and knew a lot about.

Our next expository piece will be on a topic that is completely new to your child and they will conduct research on.  List 3 topics that you don’t know a lot about.  Why would you want to find out more about the topic.  What interests you about it?
