Rice Rock Museu

Last week, we went to the Rice Rock Museum.  It is a wonderful museum that features the personal collection of the Rice family.  They have an amazing collection of rocks, minerals and petrified wood.  Our class went and had a blast!  Most of the kids had been there before, but this time, we had studied rocks and how they were formed before we went.  The kids had lots of information already, and were ready with questions of things they wanted to know more about.  Some of our kids even brought rocks from their own collection that they wanted help in identifying.

Jason was out guide, and he knew his stuff!  We were entertained while we learned a few new things!

This is the Alma Rose.  A rhodochrosite mineral.  It is HUGE!!!  It was found in Alma, Colorado.  It is one of the stars of their collection.

A large Thunderegg....Oregon's state rock!

These were my favorite minerals....they look soft and fuzzy.

Thanks to all the parents who came with us!!!!  It was a great time!
