#typesofbridges

In our study of bridges, it is important that we understand the different types of bridges.  We had some information sheets that gave lots of facts about each bridge, but Tom and I wanted the kids to engage more with the information.  So, the kids participated in TABLETOP TWITTER!!!

Each bridge info sheet was posted on a large sheet of butcher paper.  The kids went around and read each one.  Their job was to 'post' thoughts, comments, or questions about the information.  We talked about how tweets had to be short (140 characters or less)....so, you have to make your point quickly!  The kids loved going around and writing their tweets.

Here are some of their tweets.

After the tweeting was finished, the kids went around and read other's tweets.  They could 'like' a status by putting a checkmark by it.  The kids got to like any status they agreed with or that triggered new thinking.

Afterwards, Tom and I cut out and posted the tweets that got the most likes (one must know what is trending!!!)......it was interesting to see what information the kids picked up on and what questions they had.  This gives us a place to start our research.  Now, we can read with purpose when we are reading our bridge articles and books.  Good researchers are focused readers!!!!
