First Day of School

What a fun first day!  The kids came to school excited and ready to learn.  The day was a bit of a whirlwind, but everything was very positive and the we have started building our classroom community.

We started our day by reading First Day Jitters and talking about what kind of feelings we had on the first day of school.  We learned about our class library and got to spend time enjoying some books.

We also started our Math Journals and talked about numbers that were important to us.  I told them that 3 was an important number to me because I have 3 brothers.  Here they are making their own "Math about Me" posters.  They brought them home to share (if they finished)!

We also went on a tour of the school.  We even went upstairs and saw the big kids!  We discussed the school rules in the hallways, cafeteria, and playground.  It was a good way to remind students about the expectations at school.

We discovered that with 28 students, we need 2 lines instead of one looooooong line!

We also worked on an art project.  It is going to look great when we finish!

The end of the day came upon us quickly and we still have more to review and discuss tomorrow!  I am looking forward to see all those bright shining faces in the morning.
