It is my hope starting in January that I can do this newsletter electronically. I can post it on the blog or I can send it as an attachment to the parent email list. Either way, I hope to reduce the amount of paper I am sending home each week.
I know there are families that still like their hard copy, I am happy to send a paper newsletter to those households. Please let me know if you want to continue to receive this newsletter in your child’s folder.
Dates to Remember

Homework
I was very impressed with the homework journals that came back to school last week. I was able to review each journal with each student to go over what I am looking for and how I grade each week.
I sent home a homework sheet last week, and it will be the last one until after Winter Break. Over the break, I want the students to enjoy their time with their family. Reading is always a nice way to spend the break, but a rest from the work we do is nice for everyone.
The students have been busy learning about Maps. We have expanded our knowledge about maps to our fair city of Portland. We will talk about Portland almost all Spring, and this is a great way for kids to get a visual sense of what Portland looks like.
While you are out and about with your child, please point out landmarks, rivers, buildings, public art, and neighborhoods to them. It doesn’t have to be a major learning session, just a “Hey, there is the US Bancorp building downtown” sort of comment. Get your children looking around them as you are driving, biking or riding the bus.
