Changes

This week, we started talking about a new unit "Changes." It deals with the states of matter (solids, liquids, and gases). It is a great unit with lots of experiments for the students to conduct. It also allows me to start teaching the kids about the scientific method. We focus on how to form an hypothesis, how to design an experiment, how to record data, and how to form conclusions. It is an exciting unit for everyone.

Our first experiment involved see the 3 states of matter at once. We dropped an alka seltzer tablet (a solid) into water (a liquid), and watched the bubbles (a gas). It was a great introduction into the using the scientific method.

The kids really enjoyed watching it fizz!

Sorry for the dark pictures in the next 2 photos.....here we are using the scientific method to conduct our experiment.
