Newsletter - 4/12/12

We are starting a new science unit called Changes. It focuses on the states of matter (solids, liquids, and gases).

For this unit, we really focus on how to set-up a science experiment using the scientific method. We are learning how to create a hypothesis, conduct and experiment, record the results, and make conclusions.

The kids love the different experiments, so this unit is lots of fun for everyone!

Dates to Remember

April 18 – Late Opening

May 2 – Downtown Portland Field Trip

OAKS Testing

Next week, we are starting the 2nd round of OAKS. Not all children will take it again. Those students will take it either in small groups or one-on-one with a teacher. We give all children to best chance to score their personal best on the test. The re-testing process takes several weeks. We will not finish until the middle of May.

Scores will be sent home in the summer from the state. Last year, PPS put the scores on the report card. I do not know if they will do that again this year. But report cards will be sent home next week. So, we will know then.

If you have any questions regarding OAKS, please let me know.

A few random notes:

I am in need of some ‘Tupperware’ like containers with lids. Small ones please! Cottage cheese, sour cream containers work as well!

Please return your Run For the Arts forms and money.

Please sign and return the latest field trip form. We are going to downtown Portland for our walking field trip. This trip is free, but I do need the permission slip.

Report cards are going home April 20th.
