We are introducing a new unit in Geometry during the month
of December. Tom is taking over
Math for the month, and has planned a wonderful learning experience for the
class!
The fist part of this unit is working with tangrams. The students LOVE working with them and
making interesting pictures. Tom
is challenging the kids to see how the tangram shapes relate to each other. Can
we use them to build other shapes?
For example, how many triangles do we need to build a
parallelogram?
We are using the tangram to also build our geometry vocabulary. Words such as congruent, vertices,
angle, etc. It is an exciting way
to teach and learn math!!!!
