Coming Back

This is my first week back and I am so excited! During my maternity leave, Michelle gave me updates on what the class was up to and all the progress they have made. I can’t wait to begin working with your children.

My plan for the next 3 weeks, is to re-establish my connection with each of the students. We are going to start an investigation on Maps, including a focus on Portland. We are also going to dive right in to Multiplication and Division. There will be lots of new things that will engage and challenge our kids to think in new and different ways.

If you have any questions about the transition or what we are learning about in class, please email me at rmauldin@pps.net

Homework

We will continue with our homework journals this week. A new sheet will come home on Thursday.

Also, I will be using a rubric (grading scale) to grade the homework each week. We will spend December getting comfortable with the grading scale, and teaching the students how it is used. I want students to understand how their journal will be graded, and how that reflects on the work that they complete.

You will be seeing more of this in the next few weeks.

Math

As I said above, we are beginning an in-depth unit in multiplication and division. We will explore this concept in many different ways so that students UNDERSTAND what it means when we multiply and divide.

One way to help at home is to go over multiplication facts at home. The added practice will help!
