Where in the world?

This month we have studied Maps. This is a great way to learn about maps, and hone our map skills, but also to introduce our fair city of Portland. We have talked about perspective, compass directions and made a map of our classroom. Today, we started talking about map scale. This is a very difficult concept to imagine for our 3rd Graders. Sometimes, they have a hard time realizing that scale can be different for each map. We did a simple scale activity today, where they had to measure their table and use grid paper to draw it to scale.
