Today, Mrs. T. came to our class to continue out discussions about different types of families. The video and following discussion centered around 2 different types of families....children who may live with family members other than a mom or a dad, and families with gay/lesbian parents.
As you can imagine, there were lots of questions. Many of our students feel like they don't know anyone who lives in these kinds of families. But, as adults, we know that all of these families exist and are part of the Llewellyn community.
I encourage you to ask your child about this lesson and the discussion, and allow them to ask questions of you and discuss it in the context of your own family!
We also talked about it ok to ask questions about families as long as you are asking respectfully. Also, it is ok not to answer a question as long as you decline respectfully. As a community, we support children and adults who want to share about their own experiences, even if they are very different from our own.
