The great melting race

Last week, the students thought about what they know about melting ice. They had lots of theories about how to make one lowly ice cube melt. So, I challenged them to put their ideas to the test. This is part of our Changes unit where we look at the different states of matter.

In this activity, we wanted to focus on developing a hypothesis and then testing it. Here are some of the ways that the students felt would be the fastest way to melt an ice cube.

The ice cube on the window sill won.....melted in 12 minutes.
